As many as sixty actresses had refused to do a crucial nude scene in Mr Singh Mrs Mehta before Aruna Shields agreed to the role

Debutante director Pravesh Bhardwaj had a tough time finding the lead girl for his film Mr Singh Mrs Mehta because he wanted the lead girl to pose in the nude for a vital sequence. Apparently around 60 girls rejected the film before Aruna Shields green-lit the project.

Said Pravesh, "The character is called Neera. She is the muse for a nude painting, and that is her turning point. For a girl who is trapped in middle class morality, to reach a point where she not only poses naked in front of a man who is not her husband but also doesn't care what the world will think when the painting becomes public, it is a tough journey towards self-discovery. Getting actresses to see my viewpoint was difficult.

Every time I narrated the script, I met with very strong reactions. In fact, one actress threw the script at me and walked out."

Pravesh says the most embarrassing episode was when a particular actress called him a 'loser' for writing this 'kind of film'. A former VJ had actually agreed to do the part but jacked up her price at the last moment because of the nude scene. "We couldn't afford her," he shrugged.

Thankfully, Aruna Shields understood how important the scene was to the script. Incidentally, Aruna was last seen with Vivek Oberoi in Prince.

'3 Idiots' bags eight awards at IIFA

Aamir Khan starrer '3 Idiots' swept this year's IIFA awards bagging 8 honours including the Best Film award, with megastar Amitabh Bachchan winning the Best Actor award for his role as a progeria-afflicted child in 'Paa'.

The Best Actress award was shared jointly by Vidya Balan for 'Paa' and Kareena Kapoor for '3 Idiots'.

The Best Director trophy went to Rajkumar Hirani for '3 Idiots', while he along with Abhijat Joshi, Vidhu Vinod Chopra won the Best Story award for the same film.

The film, a coming-of-age comedy about three students at a top engineering college, had been nominated in 12 of the 13 main categories in the 11th Indian International Film Academy (IIFA) awards.

It has already won eight of the 12 technical awards announced last month, including Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography.

Sharman Joshi won the Best Male Supporting Actor award for his role in '3 Idiots', while Divya Dutta received the Best Female Supporting Actress award for her performance in 'Dilli 6'.

'3 idiots' won another award with Boman Irani clinching the statuette for his negative role in the film. Sanjay Dutt laughed all the way to bag the award for best performance in a comic role in 'All the Best'.

Composer Pritam pipped maestro A R Rahman to win the Best Music Director award for 'Love Aaj Kal' while Shaan was adjudged the Best Singer (Male) for 'Behti hawa sa tha woh' (3 Idiots). Kavita Seth won the Best Singer (Female) for 'Iktara' in 'Wake Up, Sid!'.

Swanand Kirkire won the Best Lyrics award for '3 Idiots'.

Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez jointly won the Best Debut Female Actor along with Mahie Gill for their role in 'Aladin' and 'Dev D', respectively.

Omi Vaidya aka Chatur Ramalingam of 3 Idiots shared the debut male honours with Jackky Bhagnani for 'Kal Kissne Dekha'.

Veteran filmmaker J Om Prakash, maternal grandfather of Hrithik Roshan, and yesteryear siren Zeenat Aman were felicitated with the Lifetime Achievement aw

Being a celebrity can have its downside and Bipasha Basu discovered this rather rudely recently when an ad shot in 1999, which has her gloriously au naturel surfaced on You Tube. The ad, which shows her as a Rajasthani bride getting ready for her wedding to Vivek Oberoi, was released in New York in 1999 to advertise for a lottery whose tag line read 'All you need is a dollar and a dream'.

In the course of getting dressed, Bipasha is shown nude, looking over her shoulder in a way that exposes her breast and as a shimmering dupatta is draped over her, she is seen from the back, entirely nude.

Bipasha is aghast at the mischievious mind responsible for unearthing the ad (which was never released in India) and posting it on the site. Not denying that it is her in the ad she says, "In 1999, I was a model living in the USA and that is where I wanted to make my career.

I was young and naïve and when I was told to turn towards the camera in the pose that eventually is in the ad, I did not understand anything about angles. In those days there was no monitor on the sets and I had no idea what was shot." How obtuse, some might say.

"Becoming an actor was not something I had even thought of," she continues. "I was a kid in bohemia. Today as a mature woman working in India, I would never do such a shoot, not because I have double standards, but because such shots are just not part of our sensibility. It isn't cool here."

Asked whether a body double was used, Bipasha laughed and pointed out that she remembers someone being there but she has no idea if it was her body double. "I have a very short memory and cannot remember anything that happened more than three years ago.

Amidst all the controversies, the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards 2010 is going to be a star-studded event with many Bollywood celebrities flying to the Island country Sri Lanka. The film festival will kick start on June 3 at Colombo and conclude on June 5.

Many Indian celebrities like Salman Khan, Lara Dutta, Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Hrithik Roshan, Dino Morea, Boman Irani and others have confirmed their presence for the gala event. The film festival will also see performance from Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez, who has entered Bollywood. A charity cricket match will also be played between the Indian celebrities and Sri Lankan cricketers.

However, some big Bollywood names are going to give it a miss. The news is doing the rounds that Amitabh Bachchan, the brand ambassador of IIFA, has decided to skip the event following protests by Tamilians, who are against holding the film fest in Sri Lanka for the atrocities meted to the Tamilians in the country. It is said that besides the Bachchan family, big names like Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal will not attend the event.

After we reported that John Abraham was being signed for Van Heusen, here's yet another news on the star. He has now been signed up by the electronics major Haier India, to be their brand ambassador. Sources close to us informed that this association will be for a span of two years and that John will be representing the entire product portfolio of the brand, including LCD TVs, washing machines, refrigerators and small kitchen appliances.

It is such a beautiful feeling and it makes you realise that there is much more to life than the way we lead it."

When asked about learning sky diving, she said, "Yes, as I will be in Mauritius for a month, I will definitely learn that too. However, my producer has said that I should finish shooting first."

Madhur Bhandarkar's next directorial venture 'Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji' will feature Ajay Devgan romancing an 18 year old girl. The movie is hyped as an unusual rom-som with Ajay playing the lead. The other actors in the movie will include Emraan Hashmi, Omi Vaidya (Chatur of 3 Idiots). Madhur has finalized Amisha Patel and Jiah Khan for the female role but he is yet to pick Devgan's leading lady for the movie. It seems Madhur wants an 18-year-old pretty girl who has innocent looks and is not very glamorous. So if everything goes as planned then we'll get to watch Ajay Devgan, the senior most of the lot romancing the youngest.
